Dayaks urged to go for agriculture

MIRI: Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has advised Dayaks in the state to go for the agriculture industry in order to achieve Sarawak’s aspiration of becoming a major exporter of agriculture products by the 2030.

He pointed out that modernising agriculture could be a stepping stone for the rural populations and also help reduce the urban poverty rate of 1.6 percent.

Douglas said this at the Dayak Chamber of Commerce Industry (DCCI)-Kadazandusun Chamber of Comme rc e and Indus t r y Celebration -KCCI 2018 held at Eastwood Golf and Country Club here on Saturday night.

He explained that the Sarawak government also allocated RM68 million to improve the various aspects and systems of the Rawangi Food Production Permanent Park near Kuching, based on modern and digital agriculture concepts.

He called on the DCCI to assist his Ministry in transforming agriculture. Over 400 guests including 150 people from Kota Kinabalu attended the celebration.

Also present were DCCI President, Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum, KCCI Sabah President, Datuk Bonipasius Bianis and Sabah Deputy Chief Minister cum Sabah Minister of Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred MadiusTangau.
