KUCHING: The perception of Sarawak’s role in the formation of Malaysia should be corrected so that the younger generation can have a better understanding of the subject matter, said Mayor of Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai.
“Sarawak is a component state of Malaysia. Without Sarawak, there would be no Malaysia.
“We are the ones who helped formed Malaysia,” he said to reporters after the launching of ‘Kibar Jalur Gemilang’ campaign at DBKU here yesterday.
When asked if Sarawakians should not celebrate August 31, Wahap replied that they should celebrate the day.
“We should remind the younger generations that without the eventful occurence on that date, we wouldn’t have achieved the progress we have now,” he said.
During the event, DBKU staff members gathered to participate in the national flag-waving campaign.
Also present were the Director of DBKU, Morshidi Ahmad and Deputy Director of DBKU, Khaidir Abang.
