KUCHING: Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) is planning to start a weekend night food market at India Street early next year.
DBKU Commissioner Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the night market would be operating from Friday to Saturday or from Friday to Sunday.
“This is our plan to attract crowds to our city areas at night,” he told reporters during a visit to a “Do Not Feed the Pigeons” area at Jalan Khoo Hun Yeang here.
Wee said the operating hours for the market would be from 6pm to 10pm.
“The shop owners will be given priority but we will have different groups of people as well.
“We will concentrate on Sarawak heritage food and focus on the local delicacies of our ethnic groups,” he added.
Wee said DBKU could start with 50 stalls first.
“We are not only attracting the local people but also the tourists in order to bring the city to life,” he said.
