KUCHING: The Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) is considering an expansion of its Car-Free Morning activities to include the Pengkalan Sapi area in the near future.
DBKU mayor Hilmy Othman shared this plan, emphasising the goal of encouraging residents from the Pengkalan Sapi area to participate in DBKU’s bi-monthly activities.
“Currently, the Car-Free Morning event area covers Padang Merdeka and Kuching Waterfront on the first and third weekends of each month.
“The proposed expansion aims to utilise the Darul Hana Bridge connecting both areas, allowing residents from both sides to engage in recreational activities together.”
Hilmy discussed this initiative during his speech at the DBKU Mayor’s hi-tea event with the community here today.
He highlighted that this effort would promote a healthy lifestyle among the community around DBKU while enabling them to enjoy the beauty of both areas during recreational activities within the expanded space.
Hilmy expressed pride in the successful implementation of the Car-Free Morning activity, which has gained popularity among local residents.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has also shown positive support for the event, encouraging other councils to organise similar activities in their respective areas.
DBKU’s Car-Free Morning initiative, launched in February 2022, has received positive feedback from the community and contributes to efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the air.
