KUCHING: The Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) is building a RM16 million nine-storey community hostel adjacent to its multipurpose hall at Jalan Ong Tiang Swee.

DBNA chief advisor Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong, who is also State Education, Science and Technological Research Minister, said the hostel would provide accommodation to Bidayuhs from the rural areas that needed a place to stay in the city here.

He added the hostel could also be used as a transit place by Bidayuh students from the rural areas before boarding flights out of the state.

Manyin was interviewed after the presentation of a cheque by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for the construction of the hostel at the DBNA Multipurpose Hall on Thursday (Sept 3).

He also said the hostel would complement the existing facilities at the DBNA Complex for the Bidayuh community.

“The construction work is expected to begin in January 2021. It will be completed in 2023.” he added.
