KUCHING: Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Sarawak Branch is constantly monitoring the development of young writers in Sarawak, said its director Abang Haliman Abang Julai.
He said there are a number of young writers who move on their own without depending on organisations such as DBP.
“For example writers like Tey Marzuki from Bintulu who has her own channel and follows programmes online or directly with publishers and writing activists in Kuala Lumpur.
“This is an initiative that I see where they (young people) do not depend on organisations alone and create their own groups to grow in this field,” he said after the opening of the 11th Sarawak Literary Meeting at the Balai Budaya Dewan Bahasa and Pustaka Sarawak Branch here on Saturday.
Therefore, he said now DBP has taken the initiative to encourage and guide young writers so that it can educate them more in the writing field.
“It is also because the young writers who move on their own have wide connections including using media platforms and others,” he added.
He said DBP is holding various programmes and seminars to encourage the involvement of young writers to ensure they continue to be enthusiastic in continuing their writing work.
