LAWAS: Enforcement agencies in the northern region have been urged to come out with an integrated approach to effectively combat drug trafficking and abuse.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said an effective approach was crucial in tackling the worrying drug menace in the division.
“We are hopeful that the police in collaboration with the relevant enforcement department and agencies could step up efforts to stamp out the problem of drug trafficking and abuse which is reportedly widespread,” he said.
Awang Tengah was officiating at the closing of an integrated action to tackle the drug problem in the state at a local hotel here on Wednesday.
On a separate issue, Awang Tengah said the state government was looking seriously into security issues along the state’s border.
Towards this end, he said, “The state Cabinet has approved the deployment of tracking dogs at strategic locations to help beef up border control”.
He suggested that “big data” be used in managing drug cases.
“This will not only facilitate sharing of data among the relevant agencies but also in solving the cases,” he added.
Also present were Lawas Member of Parliament Datuk Henry Sum Agong and Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Ngumbang.
