KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas this morning received Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep who paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Petra Jaya here.

Henry was accompanied by Catholic Memorial Pilgrimage Centre (CMPC) chairman Vincent Eddy Sireng and Jack Oduin, special officer for Tasik Biru constituency’s service centre.

According to Henry, the call was to invite Uggah to CMPC to attend a Holy Mass on Palm Sunday at Christ the King Church, Mount Singai on April 14.

Henry said it was also to follow-up on a request by CMPC for funding from the Unit For Other Religions (Unifor) to carry out maintenance, repair work and upgrading of facilities at CMPC (which is over 30 years old) including the church.

CMPC, which is increasingly popular among Catholics in Sarawak, was built in 1985.

Henry said he had submitted the application for the fund to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who visited his Christmas open house at Bung Konis.

The request, however, has been handed to Unifor for consideration.

“During the courtesy call, we followed up on the application and also to humbly request Datuk Amar to consider it and hopefully deliver the cheque for the amount when he visits CMPC in April,” he said.

Later, Eddy handed over to Uggah a framed photograph of the Christ the King Church including books about the church and CMPC.
