LIMBANG: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan will meet with contractors to address delays in the upgrading of the road in Limbang town into a two-way lane.

According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) on Tuesday (Feb 8), the said project had experienced a 44 per cent delay.

“The delay was due to a bank slip failure in the waterfront project. Due to the problem, the Limbang District Council has instructed the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) to stop work on widening the road.

“The issue also includes the transfer of the Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) underground cable,” Awang Tengah said when met by reporters after visiting the project site on Monday (Feb 7).

The project under the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) worth RM15.9 million is expected to be completed in April 2022 to ease the flow of traffic into Limbang town during peak hours.

“We therefore cannot wait for the slip failure that occurred at the waterfront project to be rectified because it will take some time.

“We will wait for the relevant parties to resolve the problems that have arisen in relation to the collapsed waterfront,” he said.

He added that the work related to the transfer of SEB underground cables will be done in the near future and handled by SEB.
