KUCHING: Sarawak police welcomed their new number two yesterday as Deputy Commissioner Datuk Dev Kumar MM Sree officially took over from DCP Datuk Pahlawan Mohd Dzuraidi Ibrahim.

DCP Dev, a renowned crime buster, is no stranger to the Land of the Hornbills, having served twice here prior to his latest appointment.

He was first assigned to the state in 1982 after completing his Inspector training at Pulapol Kuala Lumpur, and served as an Investigating Officer for seven years and was then transferred to Peninsular Malaysia.

DCP Dev rose through the ranks and came back to Sarawak as the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) chief in 2015 till 2018. He was then promoted to the rank of DCP and reported for duty as Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department deputy director of operations on May 14, 2018, just after the 14th General Election.

“This is my third time in Sarawak and I am thankful to the leadership in PDRM for giving me the trust to provide my service as the deputy commissioner of police and the opportunity to serve the state once again.

“Thank you to all and I hope that the good relations between the force and media will continue to be enhanced,” said DCP Dev to reporters after the handing-over of duties at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters.

He also vowed to further improve the integrity of the force and its delivery service in Sarawak.

“There are many challenges faced by the force in this era and thus, my focus are the two key aspects as stated by the Inspector-General of Police — integrity and service delivery.

“That is my promise. I will do my best for the people of Sarawak,” he said, adding that with the support and commitment from the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters, he was confident in carrying out his responsibilities.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Azman Yusof said both DCP Dev and DCP Dzuraidi were excellent police officers.

DCP Dzuraidi, who reported for duty as the Bukit Aman CID Forensics/Databank/DNA/Strategic Planning deputy director on Thursday, expressed his gratitude to the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters for their support throughout his tenure beginning July 2017.
