MIRI: Two dead crew members of the MV Dayang Topaz vessel have been identified, said Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah.

“A post-mortem has been done, and both of them died from drowning,” Lim said when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune today.

The victims were Thomas Liang, 39, from Kanowit and Aaron Michael A/L Michael Rajasgaran, 34, from Negeri Sembilan.

The bodies were flown using an AW 189 Petronas aircraft to Miri Airport at 5.40pm last Tuesday (Oct 27).

The vessel, owned by DESB Marine Services Sdn Bhd, was undertaking operational work at the Baram platform of Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB), 14 nautical miles off Miri, when it collided with the oil rig after its anchor wire gave way due to bad weather last Tuesday (Oct 27) at 6.23am.

One hundred and eighty seven crew members were on board at the time of the incident. From that number, 125 jumped overboard.
