KUCHING: An Indonesian man was found dead at a quarry in Pulau Salak on Saturday (Oct 30). It is believed that he was crushed by a wheel loader.
Nahor Anton Tusi, 27, a general worker, was pronounced dead from injuries throughout his body.
Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu disclosed that around 3pm on Sunday (Oct 31), Kuching Traffic Police division received a call about a fatal accident at the quarry.
An initial investigation found that a 40-year-old Indonesian man drove a wheel loader on Saturday and around 2pm he parked it at a shady area where workers often rest.
“The driver claimed that he did not see anyone resting or walking in the area while he was parking the machine.
“Later at around 5pm, the man drove the machine out of the area to pick up another load. After that, he drove the machine to the quarry’s workshop,” he said.
The next day (Oct 31), the driver was informed by his supervisor that a worker was found dead in the rest area where he parked the day before.
Alexson said the cause of the accident is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and the driver will be brought in to assist.
“So far, there are no signs of foul play and the victim’s body has been sent to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for post mortem,” he said.
