RELEVANT ministries, especially the State of Financial Secretary (SFS) are called to look into the issue concerning the challenges faced by the professional consultants in Sarawak, including engineers, architects, and quantity surveyors.

Christopher Gira Sambang (GPS-Tamin) said that the issue has also been raised during the last State Legislative Assembly (DUN) session.

“These challenges include the inconsistent application of the Scale of Fees (SOF), delays in payments from government agencies and consultants are being asked to fulfil additional work, or meet extra requirements beyond the original scope of their projects, yet no payment is provided for these additional tasks.

“This situation is unsustainable and jeopardises not only the viability of their businesses but also the quality and timeliness of the services they provide to the government or private sectors,” he said.

He said this during his debate in support of the Supply Bill 2025 here yesterday.

Gira also said the issue not only undermines the viability of their businesses but also creates frustration and demoralisation among professionals who strive to maintain high standards in their work.

“Failure to act could lead to a loss of talent and resources, which would ultimately jeopardise Sarawak’s long-term development goals,” he said.
