DEBAK: The establishment of the Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PAWE) here reflects the government’s commitment to the wellbeing of the elderly in the country.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri noted that the establishment aligns with the National Senior Citizen Policy.

“This initiative aims to ensure that the elderly lead healthy, active, and fulfilling lives, in line with the five dimensions of wellbeing. It’s especially important as Malaysia is expected to become an aging country by 2030.”

She made these remarks during the PAWE Debak inauguration ceremony and Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri programme at Dewan Millenia, held today.

Nancy further elaborated that Sarawak currently boasts 13 PAWEs, with four in Betong alone, including PAWE Pusa, PAWE Beladin, PAWE Debak, and PAWE Betong, all approved on March 18.

“With PAWE in place, communities become more attuned to the ageing population, fostering intergenerational involvement and meaningful engagement.”
She expressed hope that the establishment of PAWE would particularly benefit the elderly in Debak and the surrounding community.
