KUCHING: Deepavali, while being celebrated by Hindus, is an opportunity for all Malaysians of various races and religions to come together and celebrate the cultural diversity of the nation.

In his message in conjunction with Deepavali, National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said in the context of Malaysia which is rich in different heritage and traditions, it is essential for everyone to respect and appreciate every celebration observed by all segments of society.

“In the spirit of Deepavali, we strengthen the bonds of kinship among one another, regardless of religion, race, or culture.

“Now is the time to celebrate the diversity that is our nation’s strength and to reinforce the unity that has long been established,” he said.

Aaron added that harmony and understanding form the foundation of a peaceful and prosperous nation.

“Deepavali, or the Festival of Lights, is a perfect time to reflect on the values of unity and harmony in our society.

“It symbolises the light that overcomes darkness and the goodness that triumphs over evil. Lighting lamps symbolises hope and spiritual awareness that can dispel darkness in life.

“May the spirit of Deepavali illuminate the path toward a brighter future for all. Deepavali Valthukkal to everyone celebrating,” he added.
