MIRI: A total of 270 Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) students earned their scrolls after years of study here last Friday.
The event, which was carried out in three sessions, was a celebration of academic achievement, resilience and dedication exhibited by the graduates throughout their academic journey.
In his welcoming speech to the graduates, Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Vincent Lee congratulated them for graduating from a global university recognised as being among the top one per cent in the world.
“Be proud that you are also graduating from a campus that is recognised as being one of the leading institutions of higher learning in Malaysia, the highest ranked higher education institution in Borneo, and one that is in a significant way fulfilling its role as Curtin’s largest global campus and hub in Asean,” he added.
Similarly Minister for Transport, and Chair of Curtin Malaysia’s Management Committee, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, who represented Pro-Chancellor Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan and Curtin University Chancellor Andrew Crane, remarked that the graduates should be proud to have gained an education from a world-renowned global university.
In the first session for the graduating cohort from the Faculty of Business, 79 students graduated with Bachelor of Commerce (BCom.) degrees in Accounting and Entrepreneurship, Accounting and Finance, Accounting, Banking and Finance, and Entrepreneurship and Marketing; one with a Bachelor of Business Administration, two with Master of International Business degrees, and one with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business and Law.
The second session for graduates of the Faculty of Engineering and Science saw 109 students graduating with Bachelor of Engineering (BEng.) degrees in Civil and Construction Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering.
Meanwhile, a third combined session for graduates of the Faculty of Business, Faculty of Engineering and Science, and Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences, witnessed 54 students graduating with Bachelor of Commerce (BCom.) degrees in Finance and Management, Finance and Marketing, Management and Human Resource Management, Management and Marketing, Management and Public Relations, Marketing and Public Relations, Marketing and Tourism and Hospitality, and Public Relations and Management.
They were followed by 24 students who graduated with Bachelor of Science (BSc.) degrees in Psychological Science, Project Management, and Computing; Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc.) in Construction Management, Bachelor of Technology (BTech.) in Computer Systems and Networking, and Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Mass Communication.
Also present were Watson Chunggat Leonardo Doo, Principal Assistant Director of Yayasan Sarawak, and Mayor of Miri Adam Yii.
