BATU NIAH: The delay in the construction of the Subis District Council (MDS) public library in Sepupok and Batu Niah Market projects is being monitored and given full priority by the Sarawak government.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala said this when met after conducting a site visit to these two projects yesterday.

He said the construction project of the library building was indeed delayed from the initial completion date following a problem with the contractor’s employees.

“Besides, there is also a problem with the construction site of the building and we have talked to the contractor and they are committed to complete the construction in October or November this year,” he pointed out.

The construction of Batu Niah Market is scheduled for completion in September this year.

Meanwhile on the Batu Niah Market project, which also faced some delay, Gerawat said the construction (of the project) was almost completed.

“The contractor has taken several measures to speed up the completion works,” he told the local media.
