SIBU: The number of dengue cases in 2018 was 69 while this year, it has reached 182.

The figures were revealed by Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting at a press conference after a full council meeting yesterday.

“There is an increase of 113 cases (116 per cent) compared to the same period in 2018.

“It has been found that 45 per cent of dengue cases happened within the municipality of SMC,” he said.

Ting reminded residents to take preventive measures such as reducing the mosquito breeding grounds.

On the anti-littering campaign, Ting said SMC had granted a grace period from Oct 1 to Dec 31, 2019.

He warned that enforcement officers would issue compounds amounting to RM500 to litterbugs effective Jan 1 next year.
