SURFING, kitesurfing, windsurfing, wakeboarding — it’s all on the menu at Scandinavia’s biggest water sports festival happening in September. Waterz will take place from September 6 to 14 in Hvide Sande on the west coast of Denmark, with many competitions for professionals and amateurs.

Hvide Sande and the area around the Ringkobing Fjord have been one of the prime windsurfing destinations of Northern Europe for decades. Over two days, up to 400 windsurfers and kitesurfers will compete in a long-distance race up the Ringkobing Fjord and back.

Waterz also includes noncompetitive activities, such as workshops and shows with pro riders, tests of new gear, live music, local culinary specialities and parties. Hvide Sande, which normally has around 3,500 inhabitants, sees 20 times that number of visitors during the high tourist season in July and August. – dpa
