Department conducts awareness campaign in 11 villages

LAWAS: The Lawas District Veterinary Services Department (DVS) continued its awareness and surveillance campaign on African Swine Fever (ASF) and Foot and Mouth Diseases (FMD) in 11 villages in the district here.

The villages are Long Langai, Tala Buda, Long Rusu, Long Ritan, Punang Kelalan, Long Nawi, Long Buda, Buduk Aru, Long Kumap, Long Rangat and Long Ubau.

According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, the campaign in the Ba’kelalan area which involved buffalo breeders was carried out from April 11 to 16.

During the campaign, briefings, talks as well as dialogues were held to enable the farmers to have a better understanding of the livestock related diseases.

Posters and pamphlets on the ASF and FMD diseases were also distributed to all farmers to increase their awareness of the diseases.

To date, the DVS team has visited almost 98 percent of the breeders and during inspections, no related diseases were detected or recorded.

Among those present were Sarawak Veterinary Services Department regulatory division assistant director Dr Chou Hock Tieng.
