KUCHING: The Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak is targeting to have at least 70 percent of the dog population in the state vaccinated this year.
This was stated by Veterinary Officer Dr Ainul Riza Abu Seman (pic) during the anti-rabies vaccination programme at the Kenyalang Park Community Association (KPCA) here yesterday.
“If we achieve the target, God willing, we can prevent this disease from spreading and I urge the public to have their dogs vaccinated either through our programme or privately.
“Private clinics will charge around RM55 or RM65 per dose while the vaccination is free under our programme,” she said.
Dr Ainul added that from July 2017 until Dec 31, 2018, a total of 100,500 dogs had been vaccinated through the programme.
“All divisions except Limbang have been declared as rabies-infected areas.
“The purpose of the programme is to ensure that dog owners will bring their dogs to get the free anti-rabies vaccination.
“We have this vaccination programme almost every week in different areas such as Sibu, Miri, Kuching and it is an ongoing process.
“I advise those whose dogs have not been vaccinated to bring them to our anti-rabies programme.

At the anti-rabies vaccination programme yesterday, there were ten veterinary officers and veterinary assistants.
