KUCHING: A gotong-royong programme was held in conjunction with the handing over of the Kampung Angkat Madani (KAM) project at Lubok Antu on Saturday.

The gotong royong was held at Rumah Panjang Gaerddrick, Lidong Asal and Rumah Panjang Jelanie, Nanga Darai.

The KAM project was carried out by the National Accountant Department which said the programme involved longhouse residents, Betong Vocational College, Sekolah Kebangsaan Nanga Tebat, and government agencies.

“In addition, basic necessities were also distributed to all the longhouses,” it said in a statement.

The federal government introduced the Kampung Angkat Madani (KAM) to further boost economic activities at the community level in rural areas.

“The objective of this programme is to bridge the gap between rural and urban areas by completing basic facilities to ensure the improvement of access to water, electricity, roads, street lights, and internet facilities through a Whole of Government approach.

“The maintenance and upgrading of the adopted village started in March 2024.

“These projects were managed directly by the department, with the implementation process carried out directly with the community,” it said.

As of November 16, the department is continuing to implement KAM upgrading projects at SK Nanga Tebat, the surau at Betong Vocational College and seven
longhouses, it added.
