KUCHING: The Land and Survey Department has discovered that vast areas along the new Matang Road have been cleared and occupied illegally by a group of people.
The department’s public relation unit in a statement Sunday said some of them have also planted crops on the land, particularly along Jalan Pehin Sri Adenan.
“Based our intelligence information, it indicated that a ring leader is suspected to be organising illegal transactions, purportedly making promises that they can own the land through some processes handled by the group.”
According to the department, a series of images showing the group registering and collecting deposits from the public illegally (unauthorised) have been widely circulated.
Hence, the department urged the group to immediately stop their activities before action is taken pursuant to the Sarawak Land Code as well as other provisions in the Penal Code pertaining to illegally collecting deposits and the probability of deceiving and cheating.
Meanwhile, the public has been advised not to fall for sweet promises and schemes that subsequently lead them into trouble, even criminal prosecution.
The department stressed that the government is not responsible for any loss of investment made by them associated with this unauthorised and illegal transaction.
We are taking this matter seriously and will commence with enforcement action under the Sarawak Land Code, among them, demolishing illegal structures on ground and evicting the illegal occupation on the land as well as proceeding with legal proceedings in the courts of law, it said.
As for those who require a residential lot, it said they must submit an official application to the Land and Survey Department as the government has provided lots for residential purposes, under the Skim Penempatan Semula (SPS) and the Skim Pembesaran Kampung (SPK).
The state government will continue to plan and implement the development of SPS and SPK to accommodate the need for residential lots by the target group.
