KOTA SAMARAHAN: Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Mahfuz Omar yesterday flagged off a convoy of Kenyalang Career Roadshow 3.0 at The Summer Shopping Mall here.
The roadshow will be held until August 20 and will feature career carnivals in Betong today, Sibu on August 17 and Miri on August 19.
“The roadshow is done in collaboration with 93 employers across four districts starting from Kota Samarahan, Betong, Sibu and Miri with about 6,000 job vacancies offered to applicants,” said Mahfuz when officiating at the Samarahan Career Carnival yesterday.
“This is a huge number of vacancies and such opportunities should be taken by local residents in their effort to obtain jobs that are within their qualification to increase their living standards.”
Mahfuz also viewed the programme as an opportunity for locals to obtain information on services offered by departments and agencies within the ministry as well as under the state
government.
“We also welcome cooperation from training providers to offer skills training to applicants to increase their individual skills.
“The programme also involves the cooperation of Malaysia Anti-drug Agency (AADK) to provide opportunity for rehabilitated
individuals to start a new life.
“By giving them jobs, they can improve their standards of living as well as those of their families. We also linked with the Community Welfare Department to provide the disabled with job opportunities.”
Mahfuz revealed that
participants of the roadshow would be performing corporate social responsibility programmes (CSR) in Bintulu and Sarikei to help the local community.
The deputy minister advised job seekers to not shrug off the prospect of working abroad as pointed out by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad after the latter’s visit to Turkey.
“The prime minister has encouraged the people to migrate and prepare themselves to work overseas.
Turkey has offered a
consultation company and launched their Work for Malaysia programme.
“This is to provide training and employment opportunities to Malaysians and I hope the people take this into consideration,” explained Mahfuz.
