KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) and the Department of Community Development (KEMAS) have not issued any directive for graduation ceremonies to be held at a hotel.

In stating this, its Deputy Minister, Datuk Rubiah Wang, said that the minister and the ministry’s chief secretary have also issued instructions that graduation ceremonies should be held locally.

“The grassroots kindergarten management committee actually has good intentions because they are trying to give recognition to their students by holding the graduation ceremony in beautiful and attractive places.

“But there are no guidelines, no instructions, and no circulars stating that graduation ceremonies should be held in hotels,” she said.

She said this when asked to comment on the kindergarten graduation ceremony held at a hotel that led to complaints from parents during a press conference after the launching ceremony of the Mini Rural Entrepreneurs Development Programme (Mini KUD) @ Kota Samarahan at Samarahan Square here on Friday.

Meanwhile, director-general of KEMAS Datuk Ahmad Kamal Idris Mohd Nawawi, said that the department had issued guidelines that graduation ceremony should be simple and not impose a burden on parents.

“This is a clear directive in the guidelines. Because at the department level, no specific allocation is made.

“We also asked the kindergarten officials to meet and discuss with parents to determine the venue for the graduation ceremony,” he said.

He added that KEMAS state directors have also been instructed to monitor kindergarten programmes being planned or those being implemented.
