LAWAS: Local sports infrastructure will continue to receive upgrades to support more sports activities, benefiting the community and nurturing local talent.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the Sarawak government was determined to identify young sporting talent, a cornerstone of the state’s sports development strategy.

“We will continue to identify new talents to ensure they have the potential to represent not only Sarawak but also the country in larger tournaments in the future,” said the Bukit Sari assemblyman during the opening ceremony of the Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Football Cup held at Lawas Stadium on Friday (Nov 1).

The event drew a crowd of about 3,000.

He expressed gratitude to the committee members for their efforts in organising this year’s tournament.

The tournament, running from November 1 to 3, includes various activities such as lucky draws, with attractive prizes including motorcycles up for grabs.

Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong was also present at the event.
