KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing said it was despicable of USA in trying to dump 110 containers of plastic and toxic wastes, 21 of which were shipped here.
Masing said it is not only in violation of the rules but a most despicable act by USA, which claim to be the guardian of international guard dogs of environment.
“I am pleased to note that those toxic wastes were returned to where they come from — Romania, but why not ship it back to USA since they are the culprits?,” said Masing, who is also State Infrastructure and Ports Development Minister.
On Wednesday, Environment and Water Minister Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man told the Dewan Rakyat, a total of 110 containers filled with plastic wastes would be shipped back to Romania.
He said that the relevant process is ongoing to return the containers at the Tanjung Pelepas Port.
The minister said the plastic waste, weighing 796,553kg, was returned to countries of origin including the United States (21 containers at the Kuching Port; 15 from the Penang Port), United Kingdom, Poland, South Korea and Vietnam.
