KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching is appealing to generous donors and well-wishers to come to the aid of the destitute family of 57-year-old Yeo Beng Kiang.
According to Hope Place founder, Kelvin Wan, Yeo currently lives with his wife Nancy Gudan, also 57, and a stepson in a RM350-rented room in Abell Road.
Yeo, who used to work as a gardener with the then Kuching Municipal Council (KMC), had both his legs amputated due to diabetes.
He is currently also suffering from end-stage renal and has to undergo dialysis thrice a week at the Sarawak General Hospital.
Wan said Yeo’s stepson, who is now 17 years old, was forced to stop schooling early this year due to financial constraint after Yeo had his right leg amputated sometime in January and as a result, had to stop work.
“Sadly, Yeo did not receive any social security assistance from Socso although he has been working for more than 30 years.
“His small saving throughout the years is dwindling fast to cover daily expenses,” said Wan.
Due to Yeo’s health condition, either his wife or stepson have to work to keep the family afloat.
Wan said Yeo was deeply saddened that his stepson could not complete his Form 5 education.
Hope Place is currently helping the family with food aid and Wan appeals to anyone to help look into the plight of Yeo’s family.
