BINTULU: Police have detained a motorcyclist for performing dangerous stunts at Jalan Paragon here during a compliance monitoring operation.
Bintulu district police chief Supt Zulkipli Suhaili said the stunts performed by the suspect was dangerous and endangered himself and members of the public.
The police was able to arrest the suspect on Saturday night and he is being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Bintulu district police, together with personnel from the Civil Defence Force (APM) conducted Ops Sepadu at various locations identified as hotspots for criminal activities.
“The police also conducted inspections at several premises and boarding houses to ensure that there were no illegal or criminal activities being done.
“Roadblocks and snap checks are also carried out, especially on roads that are often the focus of many people so that the community always remembers safety and prudent ethics when driving so that everyone can go home safely,” he said.
Ops Sepadu aims to detect traffic offenders and illegal racers so as not to disturb public order on the road which could endanger other road users.
Monitoring of compliance with COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) was also carried out.
“The police will continue such operation from time to time to ensure that the communities are safe and able to live a better daily life,” Zulkipli added.
