KAPIT: Kapit District Council has handed over the sites of two new projects, namely, Kapit River Front Phase II and Kapit Town Square to the contractors.
Walikota Datuk Philimon Nuing officiated at the handover of the documents to the contractors during a ceremony held in the council’s conference room yesterday morning.
The ceremony was also attended by Kapit Deputy Resident Galong Luang, Deputy Walikota Lawrence Listin Baling, Council Secretary Jabang Juntan and his assistant Kelimbik Sibat, SEB divisional engineer Jeremy Stewart, Sarawak Administrative Officer (SAO) Wan Mohd Shukri, Seredin Achang (representing Sarawak Rivers Board Kapit), Temenggong Wilfred Billy Panyau, Temenggong Tan Kian Hoo, councillors and senior staff members of the council and consultants for both projects.
Kalaka Jaya Sdn Bhd which will develop Kapit River Front Phase II was represented by Bell Bernard Anggun, while Pet Rocks Malaysia which will re-develop and upgrade the town square was represented by Hilarian Bisi Jenggut.
The construction period for the projects is 12 months each. Both projects commenced yesterday and are expected to be completed by February 12 next year.
The consultant for the riverfront project is BC Tay Architect while the consultant for the town square project is BL Consultant.
With the projects taking off, the council has successfully implemented all its major undertakings under the 11th Malaysian Plan (RMK11) and Rural Transformation Projects (RTP).
The other major projects of the council that are in various stages of development are Belaga River Front Phase I and Phase II, Song River Front Phase II and Phase III, Proposed Re-development and Beautification of Lily Pond Kapit and the proposed Kapit Multi-Storey Car Park.
