THE first meeting of the second session of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) adjourned sine die at 4.20pm on today (May 24) after eight days.

The sitting started with the opening address by the Head of State Tun Pehin Abdul Taib Mahmud.

The second day saw the tabling of the Supplementary Supply (2022) Bill 2023 and the Supplementary Supply (2023) Bill 2023 by Deputy Premier cum Second Minister for Finance and New Economy, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

The Sarawak Craft Council Bill, 2023 tabled by Tourism, Creative Industry, Performing Arts and Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah were also passed on the same day.

The third day witnessed the approval of the motion to reprint 10,000 copies of the Sarawak State Constitution moved by Uggah and seconded by Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.

The DUN also unanimously passed the Supplementary Supply (2022) Bill, 2023 and the Supplementary Supply (2023) Bill 2023 on the fourth day of the sitting.

The subsequent days proceeded with the question and answer session and debates on the Head of State’s address.

The sitting then witnessed five ministries presenting their winding up speeches on Tuesday (May 23).

It included the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing and Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development by Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development by Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom; Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Well-being Development by Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah; and Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government by Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

On the last day of the sitting, there were five ministerial winding up speeches.

It included the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development and Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan; Second Ministry for Finance and New Economy and Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development by Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, followed by Ministry of Finance and New Economy, Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development and Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The motion of adjournment was tabled by Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Michael Tiang.
