BINTULU: Sarawak Marine Police arrested a man and seized four 800-litre barrels of diesel and a four-wheel drive worth RM90,000 in an operation on Saturday.

Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 commander ACP Shamsol Kassim revealed the arrest was made around 12pm at KM10, Jalan Tun Husein Onn, Bintulu-Sibu Junction.

“During an Ops Covid-19 patrol, our personnel stopped and inspected a four-wheel drive belonging to a 40-year-old man.

“We found the four 800-litre barrels of diesel worth RM1,160 at the back of the vehicle.

“The man failed to produce any document of permission to keep the controlled goods without a permit from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP),” he said in a statement.

The total cost of items seized from the operation including the vehicle and diesel barrels is RM91,160.

Shamsol said the vehicle was seized on suspicion of committing an offence under the Supply Control Act 1961 for possession of unlicensed controlled goods.

Following the arrest, a police report was lodged and the case referred and submitted to KPDNHEP Bintulu for further action.
