MIRI: A rigid tanker believed to be transporting diesel worth more than RM30,000, was detained in an integrated operation at Jalan Miri-Bintulu traffic light intersection early this morning (May 29).
An enforcement team comprising Miri marine police and Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) officers carried out Ops Kontraban at the scene around 5.30am.
Marine Police Region Five commander ACP Shamsol Kassim said they noticed and stopped a suspicious vehicle by the roadside for inspection.
“It led to the discovery of 16,000 litres of diesel inside the tanker.
“The driver, 45, later submitted a dubious document from KPDNHEP to the team,” he said.
However, examinations found that there was no purchase invoice and it (document) is suspected to be used for malpractice.
The lorry and diesel valued at RM131,400 along with the driver, were handed over to KPDNHEP Miri for further action under the Supply Control Act 1961.
