KUCHING: The general atmosphere of the korban rituals this Hari Raya Aidiladha was quite different from those of previous years.
Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said for one thing, compliance of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) was an important part of the rituals at mosques and suraus.
“Several SOPs were issued by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the guidelines of the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) secretariat for the implementation of korban rituals.
“It makes the atmosphere different this time because the organising committee has to comply with the set SOPs,” he stated.
He said this while speaking at a korban programme in Kampung Sungai Daun Nibong, on Sunday.
It was organised by the Santubong Zone Villages Security Committee (Jaksa).
Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also the Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply) explained that so far, there has been no reports received on SOP violations.
“We have about 1,000 surau and 400 mosques throughout the state, almost all of which perform sacrificial rituals this year,” he added.
According to him, this year’s korban programme also had some differences because it can only be implemented in mosques or suraus and slaughter centres.
