KUCHING: The Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (Tegas) Digital Village (TDV) implements components based on the standards of the Green Building Index (GBI), an environmental rating system for buildings.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said this included TDV’s water system, use of sensors for lighting among others.
“These measures are in the interest of maintaining temperature as our world is facing climate change.
“This is under our 2030 policy where we emphasise on environmental sustainability,” he said during his visit to the nearly completed TDV at Sama Jaya High Tech Park here today (Sept 2).
He noted that Menara Sarawak Energy was the first building here to achieve GBI certification.
“I see that the private sector also has GBI-certified buildings including Hock Seng Lee (HSL),” he said.
Meanwhile, Syed Kamal Azri, an architect from Sim, Odita and Muhammad Architects (Soma), said TDV currently had conditional approval for GBI certification.
“We implement improvements in our systems such as rainwater harvesting, inserting solar panels, and so on.
“This is actually part of the GBI accreditation process,” he explained.
