KUCHING: Direct flights from Kuching to Jakarta will be announced very soon, revealed Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Hamzah here on Saturday night.
He said his ministry would be announcing the flights.
“Since there is already connectivity from Kuching to Pontianak, soon there will be direct flights from Kuching to Jakarta,” Karim explained when officiating at the Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKSHE) Agenda 2019 Nightly Heritage Show at the Kuching Waterfront with Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahab Abang Julai.
“I am grateful the OKSHE 2019 Nightly Heritage Show is supported by Indonesia’s Tourism Ministry through its Wonderful Indonesia brand,” he added.
Karim thanked the people of Indonesia for boosting Sarawak’s tourism as well as their own tourism.
“The people of Indonesia are not just here to witness our culture and performances but also to show their culture and performances to the Sarawakians,” he said, adding that organising more events with Indonesia could strengthen the state’s ties with the republic.
In jest, Karim later said that he would not be giving a long speech as the people of Kuching were at Kuching Waterfront only to hear Indonesian singer Cita Citata sing.
The Nightly Heritage Show featured performances by IR Radzi, Sarawak Cultural Village, Duo PetroMax and Cita Citata.
Among those present were Indonesia’s Ministry Tourism Promotion Director Adella Raung, Consul Irhamna Fithriya from the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching, Sarawak Deputy Secretary (Achievement Transformation and Service Delivery) Datu Dr Sabariah Putit, Karim’s wife Datin Hajah Zuraini Abdul Jabbar and Abdul Wahab’s wife Datin Hajah Dayang Horiah.
