SARATOK: Any notion that people with disabilities (OKU) are only good for receiving aid has no place in society.

Society instead must be convinced that the disabled also have a role to play and can contribute, said Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri.

“The time has come for the community to believe that the disabled also have a role to play and not just be regarded as recipients of aid.

“The disabled have been burdened with the public’s perspective that they cannot do anything, whereas we know that the special group is also capable of contributing to the country with sufficient training and encouragement.

“Thus, from a young age this group should be exposed to various leadership and identity programmes to build their confidence to compete in the job market,” he said while inaugurating the Saratok PPDK Herb Garden and Nursery.

Mohamad is expected to accept PPDK Saratok’s invitation to become a patron.

“I consider it trust and thank PPDK Saratok for holding a programme like this, which is an opportunity for these special people to get the attention they deserve.

“Well done PPDK Saratok for being serious in carrying out the trust that has been given … children are the most beautiful gifts from the Almighty, to whom we should give with all our love,” he said.

Mohamad at the event also channeled RM5,000 in funds for the needs of PPDK Saratok.
