KUCHING: A 26-year-old disabled (OKU) man who allegedly raped an underage girl he met on WeChat has been arrested.
Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the man was nabbed on Friday to facilitate police investigations into the case under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code.
It is learnt that the 14-year-old student and the man had met via WeChat since Sept 2017.
“The case came to light on Jan 28 when the girl’s mother brought her for a medical checkup at the Bau Hospital at around 9.50pm.
“During the medical examination, scratch marks were found on her right hand and ‘love bite’ bruises on her neck. However, the urine pregnancy test carried out on the girl was negative,” he said when contacted.
Feeling something was amiss, the medical assistant, who later lodged a police report, interviewed the girl who claimed to have had sexual intercourse several times with the suspect.
Poge added the girl was living with her mother, grandmother and stepfather in a village here while the biological father is in Sibu.
The girl is the only child and her parents divorced before she was born.
Poge added, “The unemployed suspect, an OKU card holder, is physically disabled due to a road accident.
“He and the girl have been dating since they met on WeChat from Sept 17 until Jan this year.”
It is learnt that the girl played truant once and was picked up by the suspect who brought her to his house in a village where they had sexual intercourse in the suspect’s room.
Poge added that the suspect’s family members were not around during the incident.
He revealed that the girl was brought to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) yesterday for further checkups while the suspect was brought to the Bau court for a remand order.
