KUCHING: Buyers of the houses at Borneo Samariang Garden (BSG) Phase 7 have asked assistance from the state government to intervene with the development project after celebrating Raya at their deserted homes yesterday (May 5).
Due to the halted construction since three years ago, buyers have been forced to celebrate Raya without staying at their acquired homes.
Apart from that, buyers have been forced to stay at rented premises and are financially stretched by the monthly housing instalments they need to pay to developers.
Currently the development of the houses in Phase 7 has not been completed and has not shown any further positive improvement in the development of the housing project.
The buyers have expressed their unfair treatment by the developer, because as buyers they feel that they have complied with the developer’s requirement to pay between RM1,000 and RM2,000 every month. However, the project construction remains stalled and shows no further improvement.
Wan Mohd Remi Wan Alias, a civil servant, 34, who stays in Phase 5 shared that there has been plenty of initiatives taken. Despite the situation having been shared virally in news and meetings, the period of silence on the construction part continues.
‘’My sister and I have bought a house here; hers’ costs RM1000 more because it is a corner unit with compound. Two years have passed and none of the project has resumed,” he pointed out.
He further emphasised: ‘’We hope by next year the project will be completed and Raya can be celebrated at one’s home like everyone else.”
Dzulkanain Sapiee, 32, who is also a civil servant, said there have been plenty of empty promises, and a lot had been said but up till now, nothing had been done.
‘’Promises to complete the project has been stated since 2020 and now two years later in 2022, nothing has been completed,” Dzulkanain said disappointingly.
A mother of the buyer, who wishes to remain anonymous, has urged the developer to help quicken the process – and completion – of the housing project construction.
‘’it’s a real burden for the buyers; after a few years of salary cut, this is their first house and they have been forced to pay rent for the premises they currently stay in and their monthly pay is only between RM2,000 and RM3,000.
“I humbly request of the state government to provide assistance and intervene.
“This is my son’s house and it has been three years of salary cuts and we have still not moved to the new place; and no further progress has been made as well,” she said.
Another buyer, Saiyah Padil, also a civil servant, 59, shared with the New Sarawak Tribune that she and her family were supposed to move at the end of 2019. Since then, her salary has been cut to pay for the housing monthly instalments.
At the moment she is staying with her family while waiting to move out to stay at the new home (now uncompleted).
‘’I sincerely hope the government can provide assistance and help us ensure the best possible outcome so we can finally move in, hopefully in the very near future,”she concluded.
