KUCHING: It is a very disappointing one year, said political analyst Datuk Peter Minos when asked on Pakatan Harapan (PH) one year in office.
He said that PH had openly promised many things to Malaysians in the last general election such as reducing the cost of living, better quality of life under their administration.
“But after one year, most of the promises are yet to be fulfilled. They have given excuses after excuses for its failures in keeping election promises and pledges.
“This has caused many Malaysians to be disappointed and even frustrated. They have made things worse. Some ministers have been found to have fraudulent degrees, ministers squabbling in public, more unfulfilled promises, bad ideas and suggestions and so on,” said Minos.
He also pointed out that the racial and religious issues have yet to be settled and was getting worse, so much so that it causes the people to be worried.
Minos added that DAP was being too dominant and domineering. They have been seen and perceived as controlling and dominating PH.
“Malaysians, especially the Malays in the peninsula are very unhappy about this and thus are running away from PH. Hence PH loses the three by-elections in a row of late,” he said.
Meanwhile, the national economy according to Minos is wobbly and not getting any better.
“Bad economic management is blamed on the past and 1MDB. Malaysians are not keen to hear excuses and scapegoats.
“People want solutions and better economy for a better life. PH has treated Sarawak very badly and shabbily, cutting funds for the already approved projects in Sarawak.
“Sarawakians are not pleased about it. Sarawak’s rights as enshrined in the MA63 have yet to be returned. Petronas is not giving extra funds despite the repeated pleas.
“Hence, the rumblings and sense of great disappointment among Sarawakians. PH is blaming it all on Sarawak but the people know the real facts and are not fools. One year has been wasted on creating more problems instead of solving them,” said Minos.
Meanwhile, Mas Gading Division chairman Boniface Wily Tumek said after one year of being in charge, the PH government can claim, amongst the bigger of its success, the containment of big-time corruption.
“For the first time in the nation’s history, a former prime minister is now on trial for corruption related activities.
“That along high-profile arrest by the MACC on a number of highly placed members of the previous government marked the intensity of the war against corruption.
“All these bode well for the PH government and Malaysians in general as this drives towards clean and accountable governance which has the effect of increasing confidence among both foreign investors and the local business community,” he said.
PKR Mas Gading Division deputy chairman Francis Teron said in aggregate, PH’s performance was rather sluggish, but not wholly their fault.
“Inexperience members of cabinet, and naughty if not dubious attitude of some government servants in resisting smooth running of administration, to mention a few, had slowed down what otherwise would be a back-on-track performance of the country’s economy,” said Teron.
