SIBU: The implementation of the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at Town Villa Sibu Jaya flats and housing area will be reviewed by the Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) to deliberate on whether it will be extended or otherwise before March 4.
Its coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee said the EMCO in both settlements had been imposed since February 12 and is scheduled to be lifted on March 4 after three weeks of lockdown.
According to him, SDDMC may review the EMCO and examine whether to use other ways to replace the order.
“While there are still positive cases reported in the area, there are several blocks of flats that consistently report no cases.
“I will submit suggestions on other methods that we can use so as not to be too strict in certain places (blocks). I know many residents are affected by the implementation of EMCO,” he said here on Sunday.
The Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister also revealed that SDDMC in general is currently studying the EMCO to enable it to be relaxed for blocks that have not recorded any positive Covid-19 case.
However, Dr Annuar asserted that he is not making any promises regarding the matter.
“It is still under discussion and study. It also depends on the daily case of Covid-19 in both settlements.
“I cannot say that EMCO is terminated or something like that because we are still researching it based on many factors before making any decision. No promises,” he said.
According to him, SDDMC is still studying carefully to see other methods that can be used while getting advice and views from the Sibu Division Health Department first.
Earlier, Dr Annuar visited the EMCO roadblock at the Sentosa Phase II Resettlement Scheme to assist frontline officers on duty.
Accompanying him was Lanang police station chief Sub Inspector Devaraj Subramaniam.
