KUCHING: The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) will meet next Monday (Feb 15) to discuss the state’s Covid-19 vaccination plan.
Its chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas in disclosing this, said it would include updating the publicity of the State Health Department’s vaccination programme.
“It aims to convince not only senior citizens but all Sarawakians who are eligible to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.
“Because I’m sure you all must have read about the negative things about the online vaccine programme.
“Therefore, it is a big challenge for the department to ensure that the right message reaches the public,” he told a press conference on Wednesday (Feb 10).
Uggah said in this regard, the Health Department is currently trying to gather teams and support from the media including the State Public Communications Unit (Ukas) to provide publicity on the vaccine’s plans and benefits.
“We are preparing the materials with information on this programme to be available in various languages including Iban and Bidayuh.
“Therefore, the meeting on Monday will serve to coordinate this so that the translation is contemporary and can be understood by the general public,” he said.
Meanwhile, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian had earlier stated that the Sarawak Government would work with the Health Ministry (MoH) to ensure 70 percent of Sarawakians are vaccinated by August of this year.
He said the effort was to reduce the number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak – and more lives could be saved.
