KUCHING: Several areas underwent disinfection as part of the statewide sanitation exercise to stem the spread of Covid-19 yesterday.
State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) assistant operations director Tiong Ling Hii said the operations, with the cooperation of Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and the Health Ministry (MoH), was carried for Kuching.
He said a similar operations was carried out in Miri.
According to Tiong, the operations started at 9am to disinfect frequently visited public spaces, which included Masjid India, Pusat Cathay Lane, Song Kheng Hai Ground Floor Recreation Centre and Kenyalang Park Market.
He said the disinfection of eight buses ferrying passengers who landed at Kuching International Airport (KIA) from Kuala Lumpur to be sent to the quarantine centre, would be carried out in the evening.
While in Miri, the VVIP room of Miri airport was disinfected by four firefighters and four MoH officers.
On Saturday, six frequently visited premises and selected public areas, including Petanak Market, St Thomas Cathedral, Pending Seafood Centre, a condominium and an education institute in Kuching were disinfected.
Assistant operations director Tiong Ling Hii said the sanitisation works at Petanak Market were carried out by nine firefighters from Batu Lintang and Tabuan Jaya.
They were assisted by 12 personnel from Kuching South City Council (MBKS). The team started disinfecting at 2pm.
The remaining five areas involved 33 firefighters from their respective fire stations, who started the exercise at 9am.
