LUNDU: The Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) has embarked on the Ziarah Mahabbah Programme, in an effort to strengthen Islamic brotherhood and community development.
The event themed ‘Strengthening Brotherhood, Building a Dignified Ummah,’ was officiated by Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan at the Mahligai Gading Multipurpose Hall here yesterday (Sept 26).
Azizul highlighted the importance of the Ziarah Mahabbah Programme as a platform to disseminate current information on the roles and responsibilities of Islamic institutions.
“This year’s focus is to bring MIS closer to the community by raising awareness of the role and initiatives undertaken by various agencies under the council to further the development of the ummah,” he said.
“Additionally, through this programme, MIS aims to listen to community feedback to improve its services.
“This aligns with the implementation of the MIS Development Agenda (2021-2030),” he said when officiating at the Ziarah Mahabbah MIS 2024.
Azizul stressed that the MIS Development Agenda (2021-2030) caters to all segments of the Muslim community, from children to senior citizens.
“Therefore, it is essential for all of us to support MIS in ensuring the success and realisation of this plan.
“I hope programmes like this will continue in the future, and I thank MIS for selecting Lundu as the first stop for this year’s Ziarah Mahabbah,” he added.
The Ziarah Mahabbah programme will run from September 26 to 29, 2024 (22-25 Rabiulawal 1446H) in Lundu, featuring a series of activities and events.
Organised in collaboration with the Lundu Islamic Welfare Trust Board (LAKIL), Lundu District Council, Lundu District Office, Sematan Sub-District Office, and the N3 Tanjong Datu Service Centre, the programme aims to engage with the local community.
Activities planned include talks on Islamic civilization, estate planning, and foundational education on human capital development.
Additionally, exhibitions and service counters will be available to provide information about the services offered by various Islamic departments and agencies under MIS.
During the event, Azizul also witnessed the presentation of a donation from Bintulu Port to MIS in support of the publication of translated Qurans in multiple Sarawak ethnic languages.
In a related gesture, MIS presented prayer posters with translations to 35 chairpersons of mosques and suraus in the constituency for use in their respective facilities.
