LIMBANG: Limbang Division is slated for significant development with a series of high-impact mega projects scheduled from 2025 to 2030, according to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said among these projects is the construction of the Northern Coastal Highway, complete with four-lanes, with a budget of RM6.1 billion funded by the Sarawak government.
“Due to the rapid development taking place here, starting next year until 2030, we will implement the mega project of building the Northern Coastal Highway connecting Limbang through Brunei, as well as Miri to Limbang and on to Lawas.
“At the same time, we will identify suitable areas for the construction of new airports and ports that will connect to this highway in the future.
“In addition, the state government will also extend the runway of the existing Limbang Airport to allow jet aircraft to land here,” he said.
He said this during a press conference following a working visit to several project sites after chairing the State Development Coordination Committee Meeting (SDCCM) here today.
Meanwhile, he said, the tourism sector here would also experience growth with the development of resorts and recreational areas facing the Brunei Bay.
“There are private sectors that will also develop the area for tourism. Therefore, we will have resorts facing Brunei Bay.
“With all these essential infrastructures in place, Limbang will become an area that can attract regional tourists in the future,” he said.
On another note, he also said the government would build a road connecting the Limbang Riverbank to the town’s bridge, facilitating smoother connectivity and enhancing accessibility within Limbang.
“While I was on the boat earlier, I noticed that there was a missing road. As such, we will create a new connecting road with a modern approach using poles that will connect the Limbang Riverbank to the town.
“This approach is very suitable because I see Limbang as a beautiful town, and we will continue to develop it,” he said.
Meanwhile, he informed that out of a total of 266 projects allocated for the division, 93 projects or 37 per cent of them have been completed entirely as of Feb 29 this year.
“All these projects involve a ceiling cost of RM462.1 million and are fully funded by the Sarawak government.
“While another 91 projects are in various stages of implementation, and 57 projects are still in the planning stage,” he said.
