KUCHING: DJB FT emerged champions of the football championship 1st Unity Cup League 2017 held recently. DJB F.T team won the prestigious title after beats Petra Jaya F.C (5-4) through a penalty kick after both are tied with 1-1 in a very dramatic full-time match. With the victory, DJB FT took home a cash prize of RM1,500 and a challenge trophy while Petra Jaya FC team as the runners-up received RM1,000 and a trophy. Meanwhile, third place belonged to the Crobox F.C team after easy handling Bocanisa F.C in fourth place with 4-0 win.

Both teams received cash prizes and a trophy each. Tournament chairman, Abang Muhammad Zaki Abang Abdillah gave away the prizes. The tournament which began on October 8 saw participation by 12 teams which were divided into two groups.

Among the teams that participated in the championship this season were AGTM, RNB United, Bocanisa FC, Promax, Petra Jaya FC, Kampung Tunku, Crobox FC, KSR, Pekada, Deadalus, DJB FT, Merdeka Palace and Lanoon FC. The championship was played in a league format where the top two teams in each group qualified into the semi-finals. Abang Muhammad Zaki said he was happy with the success of the tournament due to the support and cooperation of all parties, especially all the teams.

He expected the competition for next season to be more exciting. Meanwhile, joint organising chairman, Mohd Nazreen was also happy with the success of the tournament and hoped that all parties involved will maintain the cooperation given during the tournament. “What we expect, all the teams involved will be able to give more commitment besides improving joint ventures for future management,” added Mohd. Nazreen.
