Gasbag DAP urged to stop seeking cheap publicity
KUCHING: Democratic Action Party (DAP) has been told to do more and talk less.
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bintangor youth chief, Tang Kieh Ming, said DAP should learn not to tell the world every time it helps people solve problems.
“Just be practical and do what is necessary without too much publicity,” said Tang, who is also SUPP Youth Central deputy chairman, refuting recent arguments made by the chairman of DAP Bintangor, Ting Yii Hiep.
He pointed out that being in the ruling coalition, DAP should, for example, be able to obtain federal funds to solve water supply problem in Meradong area.
“It’s rather puzzling that DAP has not done this. Instead, they chose to publicise themselves in the media every time they did something no matter how small that something was,” Tang said.
On Ting’s remark that Cempedak water filtration station in Bintangor has not been improved, he said under BN administration, the federal government had at least allocated some funds to improve the people’s livelihood in Sarikei, which included taking care of Meradong’s water supply system.
This, he said, was affirmed in a statement by DAP Sarikei MP Andrew Wong Ling Biu in 2016.
The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development at that time had a project costing RM102.5 million in Sarikei constituency which involved upgrading water supply equipment and installing new water pipes.
Responding to Ting’s “soft whisper” argument, Tang said, “Since the tax collected by the federal government also includes the amount paid by people in Meradong District, it is the responsibility of the federal government to improve local facilities. Why should we demand what’s rightfully ours in a ‘soft whisper’?
“I am puzzled. Is it because DAP’s central control is in Malaya, so Sarawakians should whisper whenever they ask for funds?”
