KUCHING: Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has hinted that he may be contesting in the coming general election (GE15).
“Do not retire those who are good just yet,” he said when asked if he was among those who are stepping down in the next general election at a press conference here today.
However, Wan Junaidi did not disclose whether he will be contesting in the polls as it is understood that the prerogative falls on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to select suitable candidates to be fielded in the election.
On preparations for the upcoming election, he noted that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is prepared to face GE15 at any time.
He asserted that the party is not perturbed on when GE15 will be called.
“In the context of Sarawak, GPS is not a concern. If there is an election, let it be. We are prepared at all times.”
Wan Junaidi who is also Minister In The Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) explained that the decision on the exact date of GE15 depends not only on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, but also with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“If the Agong decides that there are still works to be settled, he can postpone the election. The power is in his hands. So we cannot guess the date arbitrarily.
“For other parties out there, continue doing your work. Don’t only incite one another.”
