KUCHING: The people should ask for consent from the city council and not take matters into their own hands by adding Chinese characters on road signs, said mayor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Datuk Wee Hong Seng.
“The road sign is not for redesigning by the public as it is the duty of the city council and hence, should be respected. It might be a new road sign and the contractors forgot to put up the mandarin words which probably is a human error.
“If people think that the road sign needs to have mandarin words on it then they should write in to the city council which will look into it but please do not take the law into your own hands,” he said when asked to comment on DAP Youth’s vandalising the road signs.
He also stressed that the action taken by the DAP Youth would not solve the problem but ended up with a backlash of negative comments on social media.
