KUCHING: A doctor, who was arrested on suspicion of molesting a patient at a medical centre here, was released on police bail yesterday (Dec 30).

Kuching deputy police chief Supt Merbin Lisa, when contacted, said the 28-year-old suspect was released at 5pm.

However, he assured that further investigations are still being carried out.

“Once the investigation is complete, (the case) will be referred to the State Prosecution Office (Deputy Public Prosecutor) for further instructions or charges,” he said today.

Yesterday, Merbin announced the arrest of a medical officer at a local medical centre after a 34-year-old woman accused the doctor of molesting her during a medical check-up around 11.30am on Dec 29.

He added that the woman patient said she had been alone with the doctor during the check-up.

Police are investigating the case under Section 354 of the Penal Code for outraging modesty, punishable with a jail term that can be extended up to 10 years, a fine, or both.
